W01 - 2 CE Credits - Introductory

In 2013 and 2014 Pennsylvania enacted numerous changes to the Child Protective Services Law. The purpose of this workshop is to review the signs leading to the recognition of child abuse and the reporting requirements for suspected child abuse in Pennsylvania. Those mandated reporters who complete this course will fulfill their mandatory requirement for licensing renewal. This workshop describes the child welfare services in Pennsylvania, defines important terms related to the child abuse reporting law, and delineates the responsibilities of mandated reporters, ways to recognize child abuse, and other topics. This workshop fulfills the Act 31 requirement.

The psychological wellbeing of an athlete affects how they deal with the challenges of training, their ability to overcome self critical thoughts, and perform well at gametime. Anxiety regarding competency or evaluation, trouble focusing and stress in general can all negatively impact an athlete's performance. Improving mindfulness and meditation creates an opportunity to help athletes monitor and cope with their sports related performance.

A panel of experts will share the facts for having appropriately trained psychologists prescribe psych-meds. A public health researcher will review the data demonstrating RxP's public health benefits. A psychologist with prescriber training will explain the curriculum. Also, a representative from the Pennsylvania legislature will review RxP legislation in Pennsylvania.

"Informal caregivers" experience increased distress, including depression and anxiety, related to their caregiving role. Our program will describe how our practice identifies and supports caregivers in an oncology setting, and provide information on assessment measures of distress and intervention to increase access to care and improve QOL for informal caregivers.

This presentation will offer a more detailed look into the nuances of Borderline Personality Disorder and Bipolar Disorder. Many psychiatric disorders have associated cognitive deficits that impact routine functioning as well as treatment adherence and progress. This presentation will focus on 3 common disorders (Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder) and describe the related cognitive concerns, as well as how the cognitive factors impact differential diagnosis and intervention. Suggestions for treatment adaptations will be offered and discussed.
