Program Description:

Suicidal thoughts, which are a common predictor of a future suicidal attempt, vary considerably in their frequency, intensity, duration, and impact on patients. This program will review what is known about suicidal ideation and how psychologists can use this knowledge to improve their assessment of suicidal patients. This workshop will fulfill the Act 74 requirement for license renewal.

Program Learning Objectives: At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

1. Describe what is known about suicidal thoughts in terms of their frequency, duration, intensity, and impact on patients.
2. Identify strategies that will help patients to increase their likelihood of disclosing suicidal thoughts.
3. Explain how suicidal thoughts interact with contextual factors and life experiences to increase or mitigate the risk of a suicide attempt.
4. Identify suicide-adjacent thoughts that increase the likelihood of a future suicide attempt.

This program is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Psychological Association.  PPA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.  PPA maintains responsibility for the program and its content.
