David A. Jobes, PhD, ABPP, is a Professor of Psychology, Director of Suicide Prevention Laboratory, and Associate Director of Clinical Training at the Catholic University of America. Dr. Jobes is also an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, at Uniformed Services University. He has published six books and numerous peer-reviewed journal articles. Dr. Jobes is a past President of the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) and he is the recipient of various awards for his scientific work including the 1995 AAS "Shneidman Award" (early career contribution to suicidology), the 2012 AAS "Dublin Award" (for career contributions in suicidology), and the 2016 AAS "Linehan Award" (for suicide treatment research). He has been a consultant to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Institute of Mental Health, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs, and he now serves as a "Highly Qualified Expert" to the U.S. Army's Intelligence and Security Command. Dr. Jobes is a Board Member of the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and serves on AFSP's Scientific Council and the Public Policy Council. In this presentation, Dr. Vrana will demystify the pharmacology of marijuana and CBD oil and provide insights into the uses of Cannabis and its extracts and lead a discussion on the merits of this alternative therapeutic approach.

About the Speaker
Dr. Kent E. Vrana is the Elliot S. Vesell Professor and Chair of Pharmacology at the Penn State College of Medicine. He received his B.S. with honors in Biochemistry from the University of Iowa, and his PhD in Biochemistry (Pharmacology minor) from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. His post-doctoral fellowship training was in embryology and molecular biology at Carnegie Institution of Washington in Baltimore, MD (on the Johns Hopkins University campus).

Dr. Vrana joined the Department of Biochemistry at the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center as an assistant professor and then moved to the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine where he rose through the ranks to full professor. In 2004, Dr. Vrana assumed the position of Professor and Chair of Pharmacology at the Penn State University College of Medicine.

Dr. Vrana is a member of the editorial boards of several scientific journals (Associate Editor for Pharmacology (Karger Press), the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (an ASPET journal) and Medical Cannabis and Cannabinoids (Karger Press)). He has served as chair (30 times) and/or a member of over 110 scientific review panel meeting for the federal government and non-profit organizations. He has co-authored more than 180 scientific articles, book chapters, and monographs (including two textbooks). In 2009, he was named an honorary professor of the School of Medicine of the Peruvian University of Applied Science in Lima, Peru, and was inducted into the Society of Distinguished Educators at the Penn State College of Medicine. Domains covered include the nature of suicidal thinking, motivational, trait suicidality, and suicide-oriented behavior. Clinical examples and video will be provided, along with targeted interventions across domains. This workshop will fulfill Act 74 requirements.

Next, the facilitator will propose a plan for how to incorporate various forms of diversity while considering ways that this change can be sustained over time. We will present a theoretical framework to approach this work.

Dr. Jade Logan, a licensed and board-certified clinical psychologist, is the Training Director of the Chestnut Hill College Doctoral Internship Consortium and Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Professional Psychology. Dr. Logan has been a diversity trainer and educator for over ten years. During her graduate career, she developed, implemented, and evaluated a series of trainings focused on issues of diversity and inclusion from the clinical psychology department at her doctoral program. In the last five years, she has worked as a diversity and inclusion consultant for companies such as the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Corporation. Dr. Logan currently serves clients at the Ladipo Group, LLC. Her client base is primarily African American women and her areas of clinical expertise include PTSD related to sexual trauma and intimate partner violence, traumatic stress due to issues of racism and oppression, anxiety and mood disorders, relationship issues, substance abuse, gender identity, and women's issues. Dr. Logan has been a member of PPA since 2015. During this time, she has served as a member of the Committee on Multiculturalism and Ethics Committee. She currently serves as the chair of the Publications Committee and is the inaugural Officer of Diversity and Inclusion on the PPA Board of Directors.

About the Speaker
Dr. Jade Logan, a licensed and board-certified clinical psychologist, is the Training Director of the Chestnut Hill College Doctoral Internship Consortium and Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Professional Psychology. Dr. Logan has been a diversity trainer and educator for over ten years. During her graduate career, she developed, implemented, and evaluated a series of trainings focused on issues of diversity and inclusion from the clinical psychology department at her doctoral program. In the last five years, she has worked as a diversity and inclusion consultant for companies such as the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Corporation. Dr. Logan currently serves clients at the Ladipo Group, LLC. Her client base is primarily African American women and her areas of clinical expertise include PTSD related to sexual trauma and intimate partner violence, traumatic stress due to issues of racism and oppression, anxiety and mood disorders, relationship issues, substance abuse, gender identity, and women's issues. Dr. Logan has been a member of PPA since 2015. During this time, she has served as a member of the Committee on Multiculturalism and Ethics Committee. She currently serves as the chair of the Publications Committee and is the inaugural Officer of Diversity and Inclusion on the PPA Board of Directors.

Relying on the identification of suicidal ideation in suicide risk assessment protocols has numerous limitations. This workshop will introduce several empirically-supported indirect and short-term indicators of suicide risk and discuss recommended practices for suicide risk assessment across diverse populations. This workshop will fulfill Act 74 requirements.

About the Speaker
Dr. Megan Rogers is a postdoctoral research fellow at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, working under the mentorship of Dr. Igor Galynker. She completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Florida State University, and her predoctoral clinical internship at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, in 2020. Dr. Rogers' research primarily focuses on short-term cognitive, physiological, affective, and behavioral risk factors for suicidal thoughts and behaviors, with an emphasis on the phenomenology, etiology, and assessment of acute suicidal crises. In addition to her position as a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Rogers serves on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Suicidology.
