Program Description: This session will provide current psychology students and early career psychologists with information regarding federal student loan repayment and forgiveness options, including income-driven repayment plans and Public Service Loan Forgiveness offered by the Department of Education as well as other programs through the Department of Veteran Affairs and the National Health Service Corps. It will also cover the impacts of COVID-19 on federal student loan borrowers.
The presentation will provide an overview of the federal student loan landscape, including student loan and borrower provisions in recently passed COVID-related bills as well as several pieces of pending legislation that would create new loan forgiveness opportunities for individuals in the mental and behavioral health care workforce. Participants will also receive information on potential loan refinancing options as well as tips on useful resources for student debt management and financial literacy.
